Blackgang - The Disappearing Village

The very word Blackgang summons up visions of smugglers, shipwrecks and wild storm-lashed shores! Originally opened to the public over 165 years ago in 1843, Blackgang has become world famous for its eccentric attractions and well loved by generations of visiting families.

From 2010, for the first time there will be a new way to explore the mysterious past of this beautiful coastline. Come & visit our fascinating exhibitions, inspiring cinema, quality shops & nostalgic tearooms and at the same time enjoy spectacular views down the south west coast to the Needles.

Exhibitions include:
BBC Coast
Based on the popular BBC2 series about the coast of the British Isles, this new exhibition takes us on a journey to discover the secrets of our stunning and surprising coast, including the incredible story of Blackgang – the disappearing village!

World of Timber
Set in and around the reconstruction of a Victorian water-powered sawmill, see displays of country trades & early working engines. Then enjoy a walk through our millpond gardens.

The Wight Experience
Relax in our 70 seat large screen cinema and enjoy a 15 minute awe-inspiring aerial film showing the Island’s heritage & beauty. Don’t miss one of the regular shows throughout the day
