ROUND THE ISLAND YACHT RACE VIEWPOINT AND BREAKFAST

One of the best places to watch the Round the Island Race is from the Parade Ground at the Needles Old Battery. Both the Parade Ground and the grassy banks beyond overlook the Needles rocks and a wheelchair accessible viewing platform means that everyone can get a good view.

So on Saturday 19 June, staff at the Needles Old Battery have volunteered to start work much earlier than usual and will be opening the site at 6am so that visitors can see the earliest boats round the headland. Visitors can also enjoy a hearty breakfast in the tea room building, which being the former Port War Signal Station has excellent views across to the rocks. If the weather is good, and it is a clear day, there is no better place to watch the race.

Normal admission charges apply, with National Trust members being free, and there is an additional charge for breakfast.

The Race also attracts many commercial film and photography crews and any wanting access to the headland for this purpose should contact the National Trust in advance on (01983) 741020 so that the necessary arrangements can be made.
