ST GEORGE'S DAY CELEBRATIONS

Come and celebrate this St George's Day on the Isle of Wight with a weekend of live music, dancing, a medieval banquet and all-round great British fun for the whole family.

The weekend begins with a ‘Last Night of the Proms’ style concert performed by The Central Band of the Royal British Legion at Cowes Yacht Haven on the evening of Friday, 23 April.

Film lovers will be in their element at the event, as its main theme will be A Night at the Movies, with classic movie music from the 20th century.  During the evening, attendees will be treated to renditions of music from Goldfinger, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Gone With the Wind, The Sound of Music and other timeless films.The performance will conclude with Sir Henry Wood's Fantasia on British Sea Songs and Sir Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March, providing a grand finish to proceedings – don’t forget your Union Jack!

A Night at the Movies at Cowes Yacht Haven starts at 7.30pm on Friday, 23 April.  Ticket prices are £15 per person (£12 senior), under 25’s £6.  Tickets are available from all Island Tourist Information Centres. Click here for more information.

The popular Bargeman’s Rest on Newport Quay is hosting a special Saint George’s Day Feast on Friday evening, 23 April.  The event starts at 5.30pm with live music, and an ‘all you can eat’ Medieval Banquet serving from 7.30pm ‘Baron of beef’, delivered on a stretcher.  This will be followed by a fire-breathing juggler and a prize for the best St George’s Day fancy dress (optional). On Saturday and Sunday (24/25 April) make for Northwood Park, also in Cowes, where a variety of free entertainment and entertainers, including marching bands, Morris Dancers and colourful craft stalls, will be on offer.  For the kids, there are trampolines, inflatable slides, bouncy castles, swing boats and of course, St George and the Dragon who will be putting in a special appearance at the Grand Fancy Dress procession on Saturday, 24 April.  Watch as the parade sets off from East Cowes Town Hall at 11.15am, or wait for its arrival at Northwood Park around 12.30pm. For more information click here.
