GREAT PRIZES TO BE WON – THE ISLE OF WIGHT WALKING FESTIVAL (8-23 MAY 2010)

As the biggest event of its kind in the UK featuring around 250 guided and themed walks to suit different tastes, ages and fitness levels, the Isle of Wight Walking Festival (8-23 May) returns with even more brilliant walks and more great prizes than ever before.

The two-week walking festival, organised by the Isle of Wight Council, aims to encourage visitors to explore the Island’s areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Heritage coastline utilising the network of more than 500-miles of signposted footpaths, which criss-cross the Island.

Walks range from gentle two to three mile country rambles and medieval meanders through ancient villages and towns to longer and more energetic outings like the epic 24-hour Round the Island walk on Saturday 8 May.

This year, there are also lots of prizes up for grabs, including three separate Isle of Wight holidays and loads of walking goodies.  So let your fingers do the walking – log on to www.isleofwightwalkingfestival.co.uk – and get entering!

COMPETITION ONE

You have to be in it to win it!  All visitors need to do is simply complete and return the feedback form to the walk leader at the end of the walk to be in with a chance of winning this 3-night B&B break, courtesy of Step by Step Walking Holidays. This prize is for two people staying at the Hambledon Hotel in the seaside resort of Shanklin with its charming thatched restaurants, pubs and shops.

COMPETITION TWO

Whether you’re a Sunday stroller or a regular rambler, this goody bag of walking accessories from Wight Outdoors will really knock your socks off.  Worth £165, the prize includes a pair of Hi-Tec leather walking boots, a pair of Bridgedale comfort socks, a pair of Gelart Ascent Performance walking poles, an Isle of Wight OS AquaTec Map and an item of Buff merino woollen headwear.

COMPETITION THREE

The winner of this prize can choose from either a six-night break for one, or a four-night break for two while walking the Island’s stunning coastal footpath.  Wight Walks will arrange your bed and breakfast staying at comfortable family-run hotels, country inns, friendly guesthouses and farmhouse accommodation on this self-guided walking holiday.  You will also be supplied with a trail pack which includes a daily itinerary, detailed maps, public transport information and eating out recommendations.

COMPETITION FOUR

Trace Queen Victoria’s long connection with the Island and follow in the footsteps of writers Tennyson, JB Priestley and Lewis Carroll on this three-night guided walking holiday staying at Freshwater Bay House on the Isle of Wight.  This HF Holidays prize is offered on a full-board basis (picnic lunch) and includes a choice of guided walks.

COMPETITION FIVE

A great companion whilst walking or for general indoor use, Hanwag is offering a pair of their Banks GTX hiking boots worth £140.  The Banks GTX is an exceptionally comfortable walking boot that looks great too.  These lightweight boots offer support and grip allowing you to focus on the beautiful scenery and not on your feet.  Don’t forget to include your shoe size when entering this competition.
