PEDAL ON TO THE ISLE OF WIGHT FOR THIS YEAR’S CYCLING FESTIVAL

Cyclist

Cyclists from across the UK are expected to gather on Saturday 19 September for the launch of this year's Isle of Wight Cycling Festival.

The annual festival organised by the Isle of Wight Council offers almost 50 rides for all abilities during the nine-day event making it the biggest Island cycling event to date.

The launch takes place at 11am at Seaclose Park in Newport with a full day of activities planned for cycling enthusiasts both young and old, as well as those looking for a fun day out.

As well as the annual Sink or Swim competition which sees cycle powered craft cross the river Medina, spectators will be treated to stunt cycle displays by Team Extreme throughout the day. The team will be providing coaching and visiting cyclists will have the chance to have a go on the special stunt course between displays.

Age Concern will launch their Wheel of Life Challenge at 1pm which invites all ages to have a 'wheelie' good time on their one mile course.

A variety of cycling organisations will be present throughout the day to offer information about clubs, routes, cycle hire and safety. A bike wrapping security service will also be available throughout the day.

The nine-day festival features the popular Hills Killer event which attracts hard core cyclists from across the country. The ever-popular orienteering and endurance event sees cyclists tackle three, seven or 14 of the Island's most challenging hills.

For the less adventurous the festival offers more sedate rides including The Chale Pub Trail which takes in several family pubs in the South Wight Area and for the younger cyclists the Toddler Trikes Tea Party which involves searching for treasure in Seaclose Park!
