ISLE OF WIGHT IS NAMED ONE OF WORLD’S BEST

Cycling - Isle of Wight

CYCLING ROUTES BY LONELY PLANET

The most popular travel guide book and digital media publisher in the world, Lonely Planet, has named the Isle of Wight as among the  world’s ‘best cycling routes’.

The Best in Travel Guide, which is one of around 500 titles published in eight languages by Lonely Planet, features the best places to go and things to do for the year ahead, from wildlife watching in South Africa to catching a space flight launched from the Mojave Desert – and now, cycling on the Isle of Wight!

The latest guide says the best cycling is to be had is on the Isle of Wight and Ireland’s Co Clare.

With around 200 miles of cycling paths and 12 marked routes, the Isle of Wight Council continues to promote cycling as an environmentally friendly way for visitors to explore the Island.

Cllr George Brown, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for economy, tourism, leisure and planning, said: “The Isle of Wight Council is keen to promote cycling as a healthy way of enjoying the Island’s Outstanding Natural Beauty and Heritage Coast.

“To get a mention in a travel guide of this stature is a pat on the back to all those involved in maintaining our excellent cycleways network and is also a firm endorsement of our cycling festival that attracts around 5000 people each year.
