Plus UK Festival Awards voting still open at www.festivalawards.com
An Isle of Wight festival that features every conceivable kind of music, Bestival, has been awarded the Greener Festival Award 2009 winning it in the ‘Outstanding’ category!
Already a multi award-winning music festival, curated by Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank, Bestival is fun and quirky. It is also very eco-conscious and is on course to become carbon neutral.
Rob da Bank, said: “We've been working really hard to clean up our act at Bestival and encourage our Bestivalites to do the same so it's reassuring to be given this and told we're on the right lines. There's a long way to go still but we're on the right road!”
These awards are presented by campaign and advice group www.agreenerfestival.com and are given to festivals who keep sustainability high on their agenda and who promote environmental awareness to their fans. Bestival particularly impressed the assessors this year and was one of only a handful of festivals worldwide to make it into the ‘Outstanding’ category.
And on the subject of awards, the second round of voting for the UK Festival Awards 2009 and Bestival organisers would love to have your votes in all of the many categories in which we are shortlisted:
Bestival has been shortlisted for Best Medium Sized Festival, Best Headline Act, Kraftwerk and Best Dance Event, the Virtual Festivals Critics’ Choice Award.
Even if you voted in the first round you can now vote again – visit www.festivalawards.com to make your mark.
Voting for this final round closes on the 4th November and don’t forget that by voting you’ll be entered into a competition to win a pair of tickets to every single winning festival next year... that could be more than 10 festivals!
Bestival has carved out its own unique niche in the British festival calendar. The annual dressing-up theme is always widely embraced, and attractions include the Come Dancing Spiegeltent and the Bollywood Bar. Velvet-lined bivouacs, yurts and ‘poppads’ are tent alternatives, and there’s a crèche and acrobatics for kids. Set in the leafy surrounds of Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight, it’s the best way to round off the summer festival season.
