BIG SOFTIE VISITS DINOSAUR ISLE

Not normally considered for their warm and friendly disposition, dinosaurs are definitely not the type of creatures to get up close and personal with.

However, starting this October half-term, visitors to Isle of Wight Council’s Dinosaur Isle Museum on Sandown seafront can do just that.

The museum will soon be taking delivery of a new, softer specimen – JUMBO DINO - a nine foot tall cuddly version of Tyrannosaurus Rex, one of the fiercest dinosaurs that ever walked planet Earth.

Museum Manager, Peter Pusey, who has secured the loan of Jumbo Dino from London-based toy company WildRepublic, one of the suppliers to the museum shop, is hoping that the new addition will attract families of younger children.

“This is a perfect way to introduce local children to the science of dinosaurs” said Peter. “After all, the Island is the third most significant place in the world after China and the US for important fossil discoveries.”

Over half-term (26 - 30 October), Dinosaur Isle is also hosting A Fright at the Museum, an event which will see the museum transformed for an evening of ghouls and ghosties and things that go bump in the night.

A Fright at the Museum takes place on Friday 30 October from 1800 - 2030 and costs just £3 for children (aged 3-15), £5 for adults and £14.50 (2+2) for a family of four. Advance booking is essential via (01983) 404344.

Jumbo Dino will be on display at Dinosaur Isle over October half-term and in the lead-up up to the Christmas holiday season.
