As the second week of the UK's biggest walking festival - the Isle of Wight Walking Festival (3-18 May) kicks-off, there's never been a better time to get out of doors and explore this green and pleasant Island.
Thousands of visitors have already taken part in the festival's varied programme of walks, including the world-famous speed-dating walk, while a celebrity launch by Alan Titchmarsh also pulled in the crowds.
With a week of the walking festival still to go, there are forest and beach walks, evening strolls, countryside walks looking for butterflies and spring flowers, ghost walks, yoga walks, history walks with sightings of magnificent manor houses - even a Jimi Hendrix Experience walk taking in the statue on the site of the 1970, legendary festival where he performed - 70's gear optional!
Walk the Wight takes place on Sunday, 18 May. Held in aid of the Island's Earl Mountbatten Hospice, it raised more than £200,000 last year. There are three routes to choose from: Bembridge to Carisbrooke, Carisbrooke to Alum Bay, or combine the two in a walk from Bembridge to Alum Bay. For more information, tel. 01983 528989 or visit www.walkthewight.org
There are also several walks for kids including a Troll Trail Family Quest and Dinostroll on Saturday 10 May, a Red Squirrel Safari on Sunday 11 May as well as lots of Family Treasure hunts throughout the week.
So what are you waiting for? Pull on your walking boots, walk the Wight and leave with spring in your step.
