September is Festival Month on the Isle of Wight

For some people September spells the end of the summer, however, there is one place which will be making the most of the remaining sunshine with a whole host of outdoor activities.

The Isle of Wight is officially making September 'festival month' - with a range of events taking place across the Island. From blues and folk music, through to cycling and cabaret acts, there really will be something for everyone.

Kicking off the proceedings is Bestival 2007. Taking place during the weekend of 7th- 9th September, this three-day boutique festival incorporates eight stages of live music, DJ's, cabarets and much more. As the proud winner of the 'Best Medium-To-Large Festival' gong at the 2006 UK Festival Awards, the Island's last UK festival of the season returns to Robin Hill Countryside Adventure Park for the fourth year running.

This year will see the likes of the Chemical Brothers, Primal Scream and the Beastie Boys headlining. As well as the world's biggest fancy dress party, Bollywood cocktail bar, laughter clubs, farmers market, kids area and Morris dancing - this year is set to be one of the best Bestival's ever.

If physical activity is more up your street then the Isle of Wight Cycling Festival from 15 - 23 September offers a range of on and off road cycling challenges for all ages and abilities, as well as plenty of excitement for the spectators.

The Festival will launch at Seaclose Park, Newport with a fantastic Cycle Show where there will be all kinds of cycling experiences to take part in. Highlights of the day will include a mountain bike stunt display and the crazy 'Sink or Swim' Cycle the Medina event which will see cycle eccentrics create pedal powered crafts that will get them from one side of the river to the other - hopefully without getting wet!

Also new for 2007 is the inclusion of the Wight Challenge - a multi discipline event that features running, cycling and kayaking. Although it has been running for a number of years this is the first time it will be incorporated into the Cycling Festival.

Finally, running from 21st - 23rd September is the Folk and Blues Festival. Taking the Island back to its musical roots, the event brings together two of the best musical genres to create a truly relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere - reminiscent of the original Isle of Wight festivals of the late 60's which saw the likes of Bob Dylan performing.

Set around the clifftops and the seafront, this non-corporate festival is suitable for all ages and plays a huge part in the historical heritage of the Island.
