Quality Assurance Self Catering - The AA

 -

The AA’s self – catering scheme has been designed to ensure that a consistent standard is being implemented and maintained throughout the Tourism industry.

All properties have to meet an extensive list of minimum requirements to take part in the scheme. From there, increased levels of quality apply. For instance, you'll find acceptable quality at one Star, good to very good quality at three Stars and exceptional quality at five Stars.

Quite simply, the more Stars, the higher the overall level of quality you can expect to find. Establishments at higher rating levels also have to meet some additional requirements for facilities.

Minimum entry requirements include the following:

-  High standard of cleanliness throughout.
-  Describe fairly the amenities, facilities and services that the property provides.
-  Pricing and conditions of booking made clear.
-  Comfortable accommodation with a range of furniture to meet your needs.
-  Kitchen equipped to meet all essential requirements.

 ONE Star:

This level will be seen as a fair and satisfactory standard.  Items may be described as acceptable. Generally everything must be safe and clean, and older items or those lacking intrinsic quality must work and be fit for purpose.

 TWO Stars:

This level will be seen as a good overall standard of quality. Items in the property may be described as ‘quite good’ to ‘good’. The items may be of simple quality and the range may be limited. However, they should be in good working order.

THREE Stars:

This level will be as a very good standard. Items in the property may not be necessarily expensive but they must be of good, quality and show some care has been taken. There must be a good standard of maintenance and decoration.

 FOUR Stars:

This level will be seen as an excellent standard. Items in the property may be described as ‘very good’ to ‘excellent’. Items may be brand new but not of the highest intrinsic quality or originally of high intrinsic quality but not now necessarily in the best condition.

 FIVE Stars:

This level will be seen as exceptional or outstanding in standards. Items in the property will generally be described as ‘excellent’. Providing high standards in the overall fabric of the building both internally and externally; together with excellent standards of management efficiency and guest services.
