Godshill, Isle of Wight

With its charming thatched-roofed cottages, delightful medieval church and a winding main street lined with tearooms, Godshill is the quintessential English Village. Centrally situated between Newport and Shanklin, the village is easily accessible and has extensive car and coach parking facilities, convenient to all the nearby attractions. 

Godshill's name derives from the 15th Century church set upon a hill overlooking the village and with its unusual churchyard monuments, it is among the top 10 most visited churches in the UK. 

The village itself is host to many attractions including the Model Village, which depicts the entire area in miniature and The Old Smithy, a former blacksmiths forge, which is now a tearoom, gift shop and fashion boutique.

Contributing to the village's old-world charm are numerous shops offering local crafts and produce, such as ciders, pickles, mustards and biscuits and welcoming tearooms, serving home made cakes along with traditional pubs, suitable for all the family with beamed ceilings and cosy fireplaces.

Getting Around

As Godshill is located near the centre of the Island, there are plenty of direct buses northwards to Newport, across the Island to Ventnor, Shanklin and Sandown and eastwards to Ryde.
