About Isle of Wight Tourism

Introduction

Tourism is vital to the Island's economy. However, the industry is a highly fragmented and often complex one, mainly populated by very small businesses. It often seems that tourism is in a constant state of flux and confusion with many within the industry not really understanding how things work , what opportunities and support are available and, ultimately, how best to spend often limited resources.

There have been a number of moves in the past two years to restructure tourism bodies on the Island. Latterly, this has been encompassed in the emerging Tourism Development Plan (TDP). The TDP is seeking to establish a more co-ordinated and sustainable tourism industry that will maximise the economic, social and environmental benefits to the Island.

We hope that this guide to the role of the respective bodies and, more specifically, the services provided by Isle of Wight Tourism will not only be of use to you in developing your business but also in appreciating the range of activity and investment that is going into tourism at all levels.
